
Makurdi, Benue State – Fear and tension have gripped parts of Benue State after at least seven persons were killed in separate attacks by suspected armed men.
The violent incidents, which occurred in Otukpo Local Government Area and along the Utonkon highway, left several others injured while 14 travellers were abducted.
Attack on Entekpa Community
According to local sources, suspected armed herdsmen invaded the Entekpa community in Otukpo LGA. The attackers reportedly stormed the area in the evening hours and opened fire on residents.
As a result, five people lost their lives during the invasion. Several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers used trucks carrying cattle as a decoy before launching the assault. They also reportedly set a house ablaze, forcing many families to flee for safety.

Travellers Ambushed, 14 Abducted
In a separate incident, gunmen ambushed a commercial vehicle along the Utonkon highway. The vehicle was said to be heading toward the South-West when the attackers struck.
The assailants allegedly shot two passengers dead after the driver failed to stop immediately. Subsequently, they abducted 14 passengers and whisked them into a nearby forest.
However, two of the kidnapped victims reportedly escaped. Security operatives have since launched a search operation to rescue the remaining victims.
Residents Panic as Security Tightens
Meanwhile, the attacks have triggered panic across affected communities. Many residents have reportedly relocated to safer areas, while others are taking refuge with relatives.
Security agencies have deployed personnel to the troubled areas. Authorities say they are working to restore calm and prevent further bloodshed.
Community leaders have called on the federal and state governments to strengthen security presence in rural areas. They insist that urgent action is necessary to stop the recurring violence in Benue State.
Rising Security Concerns
Notably, Benue State has witnessed repeated clashes linked to farmer-herder tensions and armed banditry. Consequently, residents continue to demand lasting solutions to the crisis.
As investigations continue, families of the victims mourn their loved ones while hoping for the safe return of those still in captivity.
