When asked what happened that led to the call by the Speaker to his daughter, the monarch said,
“he (Egbedun) called on that, one boy crossed him while coming home and that he was going to arrest him. I only cautioned him not to arrest him but he said I was responsible for whatever the boy did. He got the boy arrested and detained last week.

“I was attacked and Alasi was talking rubbish. He will be arrested and if he is truly a man, he should go and fetch his power wherever he put it. If he comes to Asi tonight, I will ask people to beat him.
“Alasi was cursing me yesterday. God says I will be the one to punish him. They will remove his crown, beat him and I will suspend and make sure he is remanded in Ilesa tomorrow.
“He is an animal. If he is a man, he should come to the palace today. Ogun (god of iron) will kill him wherever he is. He won’t come back safely.
“Once, I suspend him tomorrow, he should call his godfathers. It won’t be well with him and his family. This is total respect. If he values his life, he should not come to Asi tonight. If he dares to come tonight.”

People’s Reactions:
“Arrogant, disdainful, haughty, insolent, lordly, overbearing, proud, supercilious & Lousy = Boy Egbedun” – Waheed Saka on Facebook.

“This is a very uncultured of the Speaker.”
@BokiniKale
“@AOEgbedun No matter the situation, Honourable Wale Egbedun, what you did was not only disappointing, it was shameful, reckless, and an affront to the very values we hold dear as Yorubas.
The Alasi of Asi, a traditional ruler and a man well over 70 years of age, deserves a measure of respect.
That you would pick up your phone, send insulting messages, and worse still, threaten to incite people to beat up a king and remove his crown, is not just dishonourable, it is a direct violation of our culture, our elders, and the dignity of the Yoruba throne.
Where is the omoluabi in you?
Where is your restraint as a public figure?
Where is the decorum expected of a man who holds office and claims to represent a people?
We can have disagreements. Kings can make mistakes. Politicians can err. But to resort to verbal abuse, threats of violence, and desecration of a traditional institution is not the act of a leader. It is the act of a man who has lost touch with his roots and the weight of his own words.
In Yoruba land, we don’t speak to elders, let alone monarchs, with such recklessness.
You have insulted an oba. You have insulted the stool. You have insulted Yoruba culture.
This is not just about politics anymore. It is about decency, legacy, and the preservation of our identity as a people.
When younger people begin to see kings being openly insulted by lawmakers, what kind of future are we breeding?
You owe the Alasi of Asi an unreserved apology. You owe Yoruba land a moment of reflection.
Because today, it is the Alasi. Tomorrow, it could be any king.
And once that line is crossed, we are no longer a people governed by order, we become a people ruled by personal ego and brute arrogance.
A crown is not just an ornament. It is a symbol of authority, heritage, and divine mandate.
To threaten to strip it is to challenge the gods, to spit on ancestors, and to plant a seed of chaos.
Enough is enough. Let us remember who we are.”
