In the footage, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), the man claimed that he and four accomplices regularly travel from Imo State to Lagos to rob residents of their vehicles. According to him, the stolen cars are subsequently taken to Ladipo Auto Parts Market, where they are dismantled and sold as spare parts.
“We come from a village in Imo State to Lagos to rob people of their cars. We take the cars to Ladipo, strip the parts and sell them. There are five of us, and we meet in Ladipo,” the man said in the video.
Alleged Interstate Criminal Network
The confession, if verified, points to the existence of a coordinated interstate criminal operation exploiting major commercial hubs to dispose of stolen property. Ladipo Auto Market, one of the largest spare-parts markets in West Africa, has repeatedly faced allegations that criminal elements use the area to offload stolen vehicle components.
Traders’ associations within the market have consistently denied institutional involvement, insisting that illegal activities are carried out by a few bad actors rather than the market as a whole.

Public Reaction and Security Concerns
The video has generated intense debate across social media platforms, with many Nigerians urging security agencies to investigate the claims, identify the suspects, and dismantle any criminal networks involved.
Security analysts warn that such confessions highlight ongoing gaps in inter-state policing, intelligence sharing, and market surveillance.
“This is a criminal issue, not an ethnic one,” a Lagos-based security analyst noted. “Criminals exist in every society. What matters is identifying them, prosecuting them, and protecting law-abiding citizens.”
Police Yet to Confirm Arrests
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official statement confirming the identity of the suspect in the video or whether arrests have been made.
However, security sources say the footage is likely to be analyzed as part of ongoing efforts to curb vehicle theft and organized crime in Lagos.
Call for Calm and Responsible Discourse
SOJ World News urges the public to avoid ethnic profiling or inflammatory narratives, stressing that crimes are committed by individuals and criminal groups—not by entire communities.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies, and cooperate with security operatives as investigations continue.
