Vote And Dont Fight – OSUN REC URGES OSUN YOUTHS

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osogbo on Tuesday urged youths in the state to actively Participate In the Forthcoming Governorship Election which will hold on July 16, 2022.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner ( REC ) in the state, Abdul Ganiyu Raji gave the advice on Tuesday at “A one day engagement with identified youth groups in Osun State on the Roles of Youth ahead of the July 16th 2022 Governorship election” held at the Nigerian Medical Association(NMA) House Osogbo.

The seminar was organised by the INEC, Osun State.

The REC advised youths in Osun to acquaint themselves with issues and importance of voter education to ensure a successful election in the Governorship Election in July 16, 2022.

“Youths should be used as tools for voter education rather than tools for thuggery, violence and other electoral malpractices.”

“When youths are properly informed, they will participate well in the processes of elections and make positive contributions.”

“Adequate information and voter education by the youths will go a long way to achieving free and fair election in Osun State and Nigeria,’’ he said.

According to the REC, knowledge of electoral offences by the youths will reduce incidents of violence, thuggery and other social vices during elections.

He said that it was due to the strategic role of youths in electoral process that INEC entered into Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) with the National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC ) to use corps members during elections.

The REC urged the youths to be upright in all their endeavours and to shun violence and all forms of malpractices during elections.

He also advised them to resist politicians who would want to use them for election rigging and to maintain their integrity at all times.

During an interview with newsmen, two representatives of youths talked about the essence and the importance of the program.

Falana Adeola who is from Sow live, “A civil Society that works with youth in Osun State” said the program helps to gear up youth to their responsibilities.

The program helps youth to know that their vote is their power and nobody should deceive them that their vote does not count.

She urged youths not to engage in any form of violence during and after the forth coming Governorship Election in Osun State.

A Corp Member Isreal Adeyemi also said the program is a value reorientation program. 
He said violence cannot do it all. He urged youths to come out and use their population to elect their choice candidate.
