17 suspects arrested for various electoral offences in Lagos

At least 17 suspects were arrested for various electoral offences ranging from vandalism, ballot box snatching, possession of fake ID cards possession, illegal possession of firearms among others during the Saturday’s governorship and House s of Assembly election in Lagos.

 

 

The arrested suspects include a woman, Lagos Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said on Sunday.

 

 

Lagos Police Commissioner, CP Idowu Owohunwa, had on Saturday told journalists that the list of persons arrested for various offences during the election was being compiled and would be released on Sunday.

However, Hundeyin in an interview told NAN that the 17 suspects arrested involved in 21 cases which included, attack on INEC officials, vandalism and ballot box snatching.

 

 

Others are, fake INEC ID possession, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, assault occasioning harm and illegal possession of firearms.

 

 

Hundeyin said that all 17 suspects had been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba for further investigation.

 

 

He said those culpable of electoral offences would be handed over to INEC for prosecution, while those for other criminal offences would be charged in court.
