APC Slams Obi’s Election Claims as “Troubling Display of Delusion”
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has dismissed Peter Obi’s election claims as a “troubling display of delusion.” The council made the accusation in a press statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026. Its spokesman, Dele Alake, signed the statement. Moreover, the council accused Obi of lacking character, candour, and dignity.
The statement responded to a recent BBC interview in which Obi spoke about the 2023 presidential election. According to the council, Obi said, “I won the last election. There’s no evidence, but I won the election.” He then added that not everything rests on evidence. The campaign council seized on those remarks and described them as outrageous.
Furthermore, the APC argued that Obi’s reasoning allows anyone to make serious allegations without proof. The council said his approach lets him air unsubstantiated conjecture whenever he wishes. “There is simply no end to Obi’s posturing and no end to his shenanigans and farce,” the statement declared. Consequently, the council described the remarks as deeply troubling.
The council also pointed to the final result of the 2023 contest. It noted that Obi placed a distant third in the poll. Yet he persistently insists he won, the statement said, contrary to all official records. In the council’s view, this habit reflects a deep disconnection from reality and a disregard for facts and truth. Additionally, the APC said such exaggeration does not suit a man who aspires to lead the country.
The statement also turned sharply personal. Alake’s team asked where Obi sources his facts. They then suggested the claims might come from an adviser at Upper Iweka Junction, or from a supporter typing posts from California or Dallas. Additionally, the council suggested that Obi and his followers are two sides of the same coin. These remarks signal how heated the exchange has become ahead of the 2027 race.
Meanwhile, the council restated its position on the 2023 outcome. It said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the election decisively and insisted that no doubt exists about it. According to the statement, the Independent National Electoral Commission confirmed his victory. Afterwards, the election tribunal and the country’s highest court affirmed the result. The council therefore treats the matter as settled.
Besides defending the result, the APC praised the president’s performance in office. It said Tinubu has continued to discharge his mandate through key reforms. According to the council, those reforms have stabilised the economy and expanded infrastructure. They have also supported businesses and youth, upgraded education and healthcare, and created job opportunities. However, the statement offered no figures to support these claims.
The council then renewed a separate demand against the former Anambra State governor. It called on Obi to act honourably and keep an earlier pledge. According to the statement, Obi promised to exit the 2027 presidential race if his administration left liabilities behind in Anambra State. The council claimed that the state’s financial records now clearly establish that fact. Therefore, it urged him to honour his word.
The statement did not include a response from Obi or his camp. Sojworldnews has not independently verified the council’s claims about the Anambra records or the details of the BBC interview. Nevertheless, the statement shows how the campaign season is shaping up. Obi’s election claims have now become a central target for the ruling party, and further reactions from both sides are likely in the coming days.
Sojworldnews will update this report as new reactions emerge.
