Atiku Abubakar Peter Obi mistake – Former Vice President and presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has openly described his 2019 running mate decision as his biggest political regret.

He stated that he picked Peter Obi during the 2019 presidential election and later came to view the decision as a major mistake.

Atiku explained that politics, like life, involves both good and bad decisions. However, he said one choice stood out above others.

“Everybody makes mistakes; nobody is perfect. In our day-to-day life, that is also how it is in politics. You make good decisions, you make errors, and sometimes you make mistakes. I have made some mistakes that I wish I had not made in the past. But the greatest of them, or the greatest mistake I have ever made in politics, is picking Peter Obi, a man whose political career, at that time, had gone into oblivion, and bringing him into the limelight by choosing him as my running mate in 2019. That was the greatest mistake I have ever made. Because when you look at what Peter Obi is doing today, he is acting ungrateful. I am not angry, but from my perspective, he is ungrateful.”

He added that he does not feel anger, but he believes Obi has not shown gratitude for the political opportunity he once received.

Analysts note that Atiku and Obi have remained politically distant since the 2019 election, where they contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lost to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, the remarks have continued to generate reactions across Nigeria’s political space, as supporters of both figures debate the legacy of their partnership.
