Obasanjo scorned CharlyBoy – Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed why he initially looked down on veteran entertainer and activist CharlyBoy, popularly known as Area Fada.
Obasanjo made the revelation in a trending video shared online. He admitted that he deliberately scorned CharlyBoy the first day they met because of his unusual dressing style and public lifestyle.
According to him, he could not understand how the son of the late respected Supreme Court Justice, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, would choose such a controversial path.
“I scorned CharlyBoy deliberately from the first day I met him.
“How can the son of a respected Supreme Court judge like Justice Oputa raise a son like this? I said to myself. Look at the way he dresses jaga-jaga and carries himself.”
However, Obasanjo explained that his perception later changed after a personal encounter with the Oputa family during the elder statesman’s illness.
He disclosed that he visited Justice Oputa when he fell sick. During the visit, he observed the deep care and commitment CharlyBoy showed towards his father.
According to Obasanjo, that experience completely changed his opinion about the outspoken entertainer.
He noted that despite CharlyBoy’s unconventional appearance and lifestyle, he displayed remarkable love, responsibility, and dedication to his father.
The former president added that people should not always judge others based on appearance alone because character often goes beyond physical looks and public perception.
Meanwhile, the video has sparked reactions across social media platforms. While some Nigerians praised Obasanjo for admitting his earlier bias, others commended CharlyBoy for taking good care of his father despite public criticism over the years.
Many social media users also described the story as a lesson against judging people solely by their appearance or lifestyle choices.
