
Customs hands over seized arms – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has stepped up efforts to stop the illegal importation of arms into the country. As part of this drive, the Port and Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Command handed over seized firearms and ammunition to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
The handover ceremony took place at the PTML Command headquarters in Lagos.

While addressing journalists, the Customs Area Controller of PTML Command, Comptroller Joe Anani, said the operation shows the Service’s firm stance against arms smuggling.
He explained that the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, approved the handover as part of ongoing reforms to strengthen border security.
Anani added that Customs officers remain alert and committed to stopping criminal syndicates from using Nigerian ports.

Customs officers intercepted the arms during intelligence-led inspections of imported vehicles.
The items handed over include:
- Five pistols of different makes
- One Crossman Pump Master rifle
- 132 rounds of Remington live cartridges
- 51 rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition
- Four magazines
- 40 assorted rounds of 9mm and NIM FC 30-30 ammunition
- 118 empty 9mm shell casings
Customs officers made the seizures during 25 separate interceptions between 2022 and 2025.

Smugglers Conceal Weapons in Imported Vehicles
Investigations showed that smugglers hid the weapons inside imported vehicles. In many cases, officers dismantled parts of the vehicles to uncover the arms.
Authorities traced most of the vehicles to the United States, a route often exploited by arms traffickers.
Nigerian law strictly prohibits the importation of firearms without official authorization.
