The Forum of Abia Democrats (FABD) has endorsed Hon. Ifeanyi Elvis Ogbonna, describing him as an accomplished Nigerian and an authentic servant-leader.
The group made its position known in a press statement issued after its enlarged meeting on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Ojukwu Bunker in Umuahia, Abia State.
Hon. Ifeanyi Ogbonna is the House of Representatives flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 elections.
FABD draws its membership from the 17 local government areas of Abia State. In the statement made available to journalists, the socio-political group praised Ogbonna for his resilience, commitment to nation-building and dedication to development.
The statement was signed by the chairman, Surveyor Samuel Kalu, and the secretary-general, Amb. Chinedu Emeruwa.
According to the forum, Ogbonna has made valuable contributions towards deepening democracy in Abia State and Nigeria. It also said he has remained unwavering in his pursuit of good governance.
Furthermore, FABD highlighted Ogbonna’s support for human empowerment, community development and democratic governance.
“Hon Ifeanyi Elvis Ogbonna has remained committed to public service and also dedicated to the advancement of democratic values in Abia state and larger Nigeria. And this illustrious son of Abia state has continuously demonstrated his desire to contribute to societal building and development, having chaired and coordinated professional bodies effectively and efficiently.”
Consequently, the Forum of Abia Democrats threw its weight behind Ogbonna’s National Assembly ambition. The group described his emergence as the NDC candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency as the beginning of a new chapter of progress and purposeful leadership.
FABD also expressed confidence in Ogbonna’s ability to promote development across the constituency. The group said he could attract critical infrastructure and other government projects to local communities if elected to the House of Representatives in 2027.
According to the forum, “Aside from attracting meaningful socio-economic and infrastructural projects across Arochukwu /Ohafia federal constituency, we believe Hon Ifeanyi Elvis Ogbonna equally possessed the wherewithal to pursue and make impactful laws that strengthen all statutory and relevant institutions of democratic governance in Nigeria.
“He has remained a defender of justice and advocate for the rights and welfare of average Nigerians.
“The confidence and widespread acceptance he enjoys among the electorates in Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency will turn into electoral victory for NDC in the coming general election next year,” the forum noted.
FABD further pledged to mobilise votes for Hon. Ifeanyi Elvis Ogbonna and work towards his victory in the 2027 election for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
The pan-democracy and advocacy group also urged eligible Abia citizens to participate actively in the forthcoming general election.
It called on voters to use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and elect credible and capable leaders at every level of government.
“Every eligible Abia citizens should ensure they utilize their permanent voters cards (PVC), because, it is the only weapon and power vested on citizens by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to effect a change in government, and vote in credible people to mount leadership saddle in all levels in the country,” they stated.
FABD said active participation in the electoral process remains essential to achieving accountable leadership and effective representation across Abia State and Nigeria.
