Four police officers detained for extortion in Lagos

Four police officers have been detained in Lagos State for alleged extortion of a yet-to-be-identified resident.

The arrest of the policemen was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu after viewing the viral video.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesman, Adekunle Ajisebutu late Thursday said the attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a video going viral on social media exposing some Police officers in Maroko Police Division extorting money from a citizen.

“Peeved by the unprofessional conduct of the officers as captured/revealed in the video, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, directed that the erring police officers should be identified and arrested immediately.

”In compliance with the directive, therefore, all the four police officers have been arrested and detained. They are currently facing disciplinary actions,” Ajisebutu said.

He said while condemning this inglorious act, the Commissioner of Police vowed to deal decisively with any police officer found acting in such or other unprofessional manner in the Command.
