Gunmen assassinate famous Lawyer in Imo

There is high tension in Orlu, Imo state after unknown gunmen killed a popular lawyer in the state, Mr. Darlington Odume known as Omekagu.

It was gathered that the gunmens attacked and shot Omekagu in a supermarket at Amaifeke area of Orlu. This development is coming barely 24 hours after a popular anglican priest, Emeka Merenu was also murdered in Ihitte-Ukwa, Orsu LGA of the state.

It was reported that the lawyer was handling the cases of some individuals arrested in connection with the violence that has been affecting the area for some time.

The deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital but he was rejected and died on the way to the Imo state University teaching hospital, IMSUTH.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said, “Omekagu was handling some of the cases of those arrested and believed to be innocent due to the violence in Orlu. His wife is a Police officer. The entire community has been thrown into mourning. His wife is a serving Police officer. This is very unfortunate.”

The sad incident has been confirmed by Imo state police PRO, Mike Abbatam adding that a probe has started.
