Ikirun Kingmakers react to allegation of bias, bribery over the selection of new Akirun of Ikirunland

The six Ikirun Kingmakers have debunked the allegations of bias and alleged bribery over the selection of new Akirun of Ikirunland, HRH Oba Yunus Olalekan Akadiri Oyewole III.

They said the allegations that they have fled the town made by the Eesa of Ikirun was false and it is capable of causing violence if not addressed immediately.

When SOJ WORLDWIDE http://www.sojworldnews.com  reporters got to the Palace of the Oba-Elect, we met all the six Kingmakers who were said to have been on the run in the Palace with the leaders of the Iyalojas, Youths, Chiefs and other stakeholders on a solidarity visits to the new Oba-Elect.

The six Kingmakers alleged to have connived with the Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola to install a stooge as the Akirun of Ikirunland were seen seated with the new Akirun.

But in a swift reaction to the allegation, Chief Diekola, the Odofin of Ikirun said Eesa was part of the process from the beginning to the end. He said Eesa invited all the Kingmakers to the venue of the election where all the candidates were present with government officials from the State and the Local Government including religious leaders, top Police officers, DSS and other security outfits.

Chief Diekola said, the meeting was facilitated by the Local Government as directed by the State’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osun State. He denied collecting any bribe either for or on behalf of other Chiefs.

According to Chief Diekola, the government was able to organize the event having got a greenlight from the court that ruled in favour of the process.

The contestants to the Obaship seat numbering about 21 were present, they were asked if they have a consensus candidate among them in which they said they prefer to go for an election than having a consensus candidate.

The election was conducted, six of the Kingmakers voted in favour of the Oba-Elect while Eesa was the only one who voted for his own candidate. The result of the election was 6-1 in favour of Oba Olalekan Akadiri.

All the candidates agreed and signed the documents in agreement to the outcome of the election.

Chief Diekola told SOJ WORLDWIDE that all necessary procedures were followed including consulting the Oracle. He said they got the blessings of Islamic and Christian leaders affirming the choice of Oba Akadiri.

Other chiefs in the palace corroborated what Chief Odofin said.

Socialite and business magnate, the Elemo-Aga and Oluomo of Ikirunland, Chief Bamidele Onifade said the allegation of Eesa against the process of selecting the Oba-Elect was baseless because he participated in the process from beginning to the end.

Chief Onifade said although he was not allowed to vote in the election contrary to the allegation Eesa made against him that he masterminded the appointment of the new Oba-Elect.

Chief Onifade said,
“I totally debunked as untrue the statements credited to Chief Eesa of Ikirunland during an interview with a popular Radio Station in Osogbo that they were in hiding and they compromised the selection of the Akirun.

There was no irregularities during the selection process of the new Akinrun within Obaara Ruling House. Every laid down procedures were applied and followed. Chief Eesa’s statement was totally untrue and baseless.”

When asked what was the way forward, Chief Onifade said Eesa has to cooperate with the majority since he took part in the entire process.

It would be recalled that our reporters, on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 went to Ikirun on a fact finding over the kingship tussle in the ancient city of Osun State. This was sequel to the reports that some Kingmakers were bribed to install an unpopular candidate against the wish of the indegenes and residents of Ikirunland.

One of the paramount Chiefs identified as Chief Eesa of Ikirun, Chief Abdul Kareem Adetoyese was on a Live Radio program in Osogbo rejecting the outcome of the selection process that brought in the Oba-Elect, HRH Oba Yunus Olalekan Akadiri Oyewole III.

It was said in the interview that the majority of Ikirun sons and daughters have rejected the new King and all the six Kingmakers colluded with the State Government after they have collected bribes to install an unpopular candidate.

It was also alleged that they have been on the run and were in hiding since they carried out their nefarious activities.

But contrary to the allegation, our reporters went round the city of Ikirun on Tuesday, there was no sign of protests, either violent or peaceful protests in the Town.

EESA of Ikirunland in an interview with a popular Radio Station in Osogbo said the nomination of the new Akirun did not follow the normal procedures as laid down in the process of selection of the king, therefore, the purported election is null and void.
