This is ugly experience a man identified as Tino China said he had with policemen at the Checkpoint in Awka, Anambra State on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

“So on Wednesday 14/4/2021 around 10am i went to Onitsha City in Anambra state to visit my kid sister and her family,
On our way to shop right we saw this policemen along Awka Road at a checkpoint and they stopped us, in the car was me, My guy who was driving, My kid bro my sister and her kids.

So the police asked my guy for his particulars and his drivers licence he gave them they later asked why he was driving a car with tinted glass he then told them that we came from Enugu for a visit that we do not live in Onitsha but they insisted that we must bribe them before they can let us go because tinted glasses are banned in Anambra state.
Meanwhile, i was sitting in the car waiting for my guy to resolve with them so that we can continue with our trip but after some hours of delay i decided to come down from the car and plead with the police to let us go, i also told my guy to show that that the car was registered in Enugu the plate Number also was Enugu but they insisted that we must pay some amount of money before they can let us go.
After So much pleading and time wasted i told the policeman they are really doing a wrong by asking for bribe before letting us go so the police got provoked and started threatening me that he will shot me that am an empty vessel.

I then told him that as a policeman that he is supposed to protect the citizens with him weapons not to threaten them he then said to me that he can waste my life and nothing will happen that was when i brought out my phone to video everything so that I can have evidence to proof they now started brutalizing me and the other one shot a live bullet at me but as God may have it i jumped inside the gutter and started running and 5 of them started chasing me and pointing their gun at me to shot me again and that was when i stopped and they arrested me.
When we got to the station (inland town police station Awka road Onitsha) the DPO told them to put me inside cell without even writing statement the DPO later brought me out of the cell to his office and started brutalizing me inside his office with machete and he told me to put my password so he can delete the videos but i refused.

So they returned me to there cell after 3 days of brutalization by the DPO I decided to open the phone so they can delete the video because i was becoming weak and tired because of the injuries they inflicted on me and they never allowed me to touch my phone or make any call.
After deleting the video the DPO then said for me to go that i will pay 200k for bail out and 85k for police uniform that got tore before i will be released they now gave me a phone to call some who can help me bring the money to bail myself and this was on Saturday 17/4/2021.
