Nigeria Police officers and the Air Force personnel engaged in a free-for-all fight publicly at a roadblock close to the Air Force base in Delta State on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
In the full glare of motorists, the two security agents were seen in a show of shame.
In a statement released by the Delta State Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, he said argument ensued when a suspect in possession of Codeine, Indian Hemp and Canadian Loud was arrested.
According to the statement, the Air Force personnel wanted the man to be released against the wishes of the Police hence the free-for-all fight.
“The Policemen attached to QRS were on their way with a suspect found in possession of substances suspected to be codeine, Indian Hemp, canadian loud.
But the personnel of the airforce who happen to know the suspect intercepted and insisted that the policemen must release them before proceeding hence they attacked the policemen unprovoked. This issue is being attended.
We recognized the cordial relationship we have the the Nigeria Airforce in Delta State, the Delta state Police command under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda and the Airforce authorities are looking into this incident and setting up modalities to ensure that this shameful incident does not repeat itself again.”
Meanwhile, Nigerian Air Force has also issued a Press Release monitored by SOJ WORLDWIDE on their official x.com Page.
The release signed by the Director, Public Relations and Information, Air Vice-Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa said the issues have been “decisively addressed” while the erring Air Force personnel will be sanctioned according to military traditions.
Air Force Press Statement:
“The attention of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been drawn to a video circulating on social and other media, depicting an altercation between some NAF personnel and police officers in Warri, Delta State, on Tuesday, 11 February 2025.
The NAF wishes to state that the incident has been decisively addressed. The Commander of the concerned NAF unit has engaged with the relevant Police authorities in Delta State, to resolve the matter with a view to enhancing inter-agency understanding.
Moreover, the injured Police officers have received the necessary medical attention, while the NAF personnel involved are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures in accordance with military regulations.
As a professional and disciplined force, the NAF remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and fostering harmonious relationships with sister agencies in the collective pursuit of national security and public safety.
Accordingly, appropriate measures are being taken to prevent any recurrence of such incidents as recently witnessed in Warri, whilst the continued support and understanding of the public is highly appreciated.”
