Manchester scholarships for Nigerian students could cut tuition bills by thousands of pounds. The University of Manchester is offering more than 350 Global Futures Scholarships for students who start in September 2027. Together, the awards exceed £6 million. Applicants can apply for undergraduate and master’s degrees, and Nigeria is on the list of eligible countries.
The undergraduate awards are worth up to £36,000. Each winner receives £12,000 in the first year and another £12,000 in the second and third years. The university applies the money as a discount, which means it is “awarded as a discount on published international tuition fees.” However, students must score 60 percent in their final exams and assessments each year to keep the award.
The master’s awards are worth £19,000 each. The university plans to give out more than 250 of these merit-based scholarships worldwide. Nigerian students can apply, along with applicants from Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Moreover, the university again applies the money as a tuition discount.
Eligibility rules apply. First, applicants must be fee-paying international students who have mainly lived in Nigeria over the last three years. They must also pay for their own studies, so sponsored students do not qualify. In addition, undergraduate applicants must take A-levels, the IB Diploma or an approved foundation programme such as the NCUK International Foundation Year or Bridge House College. They must also apply for direct entry into the first year in 2027.
Master’s applicants face a different set of conditions. They must hold an unconditional offer for a full-time, on-campus master’s course starting in September 2027. In addition, the university excludes students who earned a bachelor’s degree outside Africa. Several courses are also off the list, including the MBA, MPhil, architecture degrees, the PGCE and clinical medicine and dentistry.
Undergraduate applicants must meet two further conditions. They must choose Manchester as their firm choice on UCAS by May 15, 2027. Furthermore, the scholarship does not cover medicine, dentistry, architecture or courses with an integrated foundation year. It also excludes students who have previously studied in the UK.
The deadlines depend on the level of study. For undergraduates, round one closes on February 25, 2027, and covers students who take exams in 2026, such as the November A-level series. Everyone else must apply by April 8, 2027. Decisions follow by April 2 for round one and by May 12 for round two. Master’s applicants must hold an unconditional offer and submit the form by April 20, 2027. The university will announce results by May 24, 2027.
Students cannot apply for these awards directly. Instead, they must first apply for a course and receive an offer. The university then emails the scholarship form to every eligible offer-holder, and undergraduate forms start going out in December 2026. The university says most taught courses have no official closing date. Nevertheless, early applications give you more time to secure the offer before the scholarship deadline. Manchester scholarships for Nigerian students depend on that offer, so do not delay.
