A PRESS STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 16th, 2026.
DEMAND FOR THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF INSPECTOR SAMPSON IKWUJE
EduBrain Int’l Human Rights Organization unequivocally demands the immediate and unconditional release of Inspector Sampson Ikwuje, as we maintain that speaking up about the welfare, suffering, and working conditions of fellow police officers should not, in itself, be criminalised.
From the information available to us, Inspector Sampson Ikwuje’s alleged offence was his decision to speak out on issues affecting the generality of police officers in Nigeria. His intervention was not a call for lawlessness but a clarion call for institutional reform, improved welfare, and a more humane working environment for the men and women entrusted with safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.
We wish to remind the relevant authorities that Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, guarantees the right to freedom of expression, subject to lawful limitations. No individual should be subjected to arbitrary punishment merely for expressing legitimate concerns or advocating reforms through lawful means.
Inspector Sampson Ikwuje, like every other citizen, is entitled to the protection of the law. If there are allegations against him, such allegations must be established through due process rather than allowing the exercise of a fundamental right to become a pretext for persecution.
We therefore call on the Inspector-General of Police and all relevant authorities to act with urgency, review the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention, and secure his immediate release if there is no lawful basis for his continued detention.
The Nigeria Police Force must be an institution where legitimate concerns are addressed constructively, not where those who raise them are automatically treated as adversaries. Genuine reform begins with listening to the people within the system who understand its challenges firsthand.
Our position is unequivocal: Inspector Sampson Ikwuje deserves justice, fairness, and the full protection of his constitutional rights. Speaking up for police welfare and institutional reform must not be treated as a crime in itself.
We shall continue to advocate for justice, accountability, respect for fundamental human rights, and the dignity of every Nigerian, irrespective of rank, status, or profession.
RELEASE INSPECTOR SAMPSON IKWUJE NOW!
NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE!
Signed:
Barr. Collins Edu Abiodun
