The opportunity
Mercury is looking for a Creative Director to build and lead Brand Narrative, a new team within Brand Creative. You will turn company strategy, product truths, customer insight, and cultural observations into original concepts for the most important launches, campaigns, and brand moments. You will originate ideas and stay closely involved as they become finished work.
Your background might be in art direction, design, or copywriting. What matters is your ability to develop exceptional concepts, recognize the best idea wherever it comes from, and bring the whole creative studio together to make it real. Deep experience in film-led storytelling is essential.
You will work in close partnership with the leads of Brand Design and Writing, shaping concepts, language, and visual expression together from the start. In your first year, expect about 70% of your time on creative development for top-priority launches and campaigns, and 30% on building the Brand Narrative function.
What you’ll do
- Originate big ideas. Turn the agreed audience, opportunity, and product proof into concepts for film, social, out-of-home, digital, experiences, and partnerships.
- Bring concepts to life. Work hands-on with Design, Writing, Motion, and Production from early exploration through delivery, including scripts, production, and the final edit for film.
- Build in audience and distribution. Shape ideas around how people discover, watch, and share the work.
- Push past the first good answer. Use rough scripts, prototypes, and AI tools to test ideas quickly and move the strongest work forward.
- Find opportunities early. Develop proactive ideas and cultural moments before a brief arrives.
- Guide creative investment. Help decide which moments deserve the largest creative effort and present recommendations to senior leadership.
- Build and lead the team. Define purpose, standards, and ways of working, hire and develop people, and create a culture where the best idea wins.
What you’ll bring
- A strong foundation in art direction, design, or copywriting, with a portfolio of original, well-crafted concepts across formats.
- Deep film experience, from concept through production, with strong instincts for story, scripts, performance, pacing, and sound.
- A record of deep collaboration with design and writing peers on ambitious multidisciplinary work.
- Strong taste, cultural awareness, and curiosity about complex products.
- Experience developing creative people and shaping how a team works.
- Clear communication and sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
What success looks like
A year in, you will have led major launches and film-led campaigns from original concept through finished work. Brand Narrative will have a clear identity, shared creative standards, and working practices that help people develop stronger ideas together, plus a pipeline of proactive opportunities.
How to apply
Include a portfolio featuring film-led work and broader campaign concepts, and explain your role in developing the ideas and bringing them to life with others. The application also asks why Mercury, in under 300 words and in your own voice.
Total rewards
