Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), working closely with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (US-DEA) Lagos Country Office and other international law enforcement agencies, have dismantled a major transnational criminal organization involved in laundering drug proceeds worth hundreds of billions of Naira across Europe and Nigeria.
The multi-country operation, which lasted several months, led to the arrest of an alleged billionaire drug baron, Amadi Simon, in Switzerland alongside two female kingpins linked to the syndicate.

The suspects identified as 34-year-old Jecinta Amara Ikechi and 28-year-old Blessing Ngozi Amadi were arrested in Anambra and Delta states respectively on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
According to the NDLEA, the arrests followed coordinated intelligence gathering and investigations carried out across multiple countries. Investigators reportedly linked the suspects to the laundering of proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking and other financial crimes.
“The NDLEA remains relentless in its pursuit of those involved in narcotics trafficking and associated financial crimes, regardless of where they attempt to hide,” NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), stated.
Furthermore, the anti-narcotics agency disclosed that investigators uncovered a sophisticated network of shell companies, cryptocurrency wallets, traditional bank accounts, delegates, and pass-through entities allegedly used by the syndicate to conceal illicit funds.
As part of the crackdown, authorities traced and identified several high-value properties allegedly acquired with proceeds from drug trafficking.
The properties include:
- Jovi Hotel located at 1 Isiayei Street, GRA Phase 1, Asaba, Delta State;
- Jovi Hotel and Suites situated at 4 Orikeze by Deeper Life Road, Agbor, Delta State; and
- Jovi Apartment at Jamieson Court, Mabushi, Abuja.
In addition, multiple bank accounts and cryptocurrency addresses allegedly linked to the cartel have been identified and blocked by authorities.
Speaking on the success of the operation, Marwa praised the strong collaboration between the NDLEA, the US-DEA, and other international partners.
“The success of this multi-country and multi-year operation sends a clear message that the NDLEA maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward crimes that jeopardize the safety of Nigerians, the integrity of our national reputation, and the stability of our economy,” Marwa said.
Meanwhile, he expressed appreciation to the US government and the DEA for their continued support in intelligence sharing, tactical operations, evidence gathering, training, and provision of critical operational equipment.
According to him, the NDLEA will continue to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against narcotics trafficking and financial crimes.
“Built upon a foundation of strategic partnership, unwavering integrity, and dedicated professionalism, the NDLEA is committed to ensuring that Nigeria is neither a haven for drug traffickers who profit from illicit substances nor a sanctuary for their criminal proceeds,” he added.
The operation marks one of the biggest coordinated international anti-drug crackdowns involving Nigerian authorities in recent years.
