Buhari UAE military deal blocked – A fresh revelation about Nigeria’s fight against terrorism has sparked reactions online. Dr. Charles Omole made the claim in a recent statement.
Dr. Omole is the author of From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari. He alleged that a major military procurement deal was blocked despite presidential approval.
According to him, the Federal Government secured a government-to-government agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The deal would have supplied military equipment to Nigeria at a lower cost.
“Nigeria got a Govt-to-Govt deal with the UAE to supply military equipment to Nigeria at a $2 unit price. Nigeria was buying the same equipment at $27. It would save Nigeria $25,” Dr. Omole stated.
He also claimed that late former President Muhammadu Buhari approved the arrangement. However, he alleged that powerful forces within the administration stopped the deal.
“Late Buhari signed it but the head of the Cabal in his govt, Mamman Daura, refused the deal. It was stopped,” he added.
The statement has generated intense debate across social media platforms. Many Nigerians questioned why insecurity has remained a major challenge despite huge defence budgets.
Furthermore, some citizens argued that the country may have missed an opportunity to strengthen military operations. Others blamed internal politics and elite interests for delays in security reforms.
Meanwhile, supporters of the former administration have not officially responded to the allegation. Mamman Daura has also remained silent on the matter as of press time.
Despite the controversy, many Nigerians still believe the country can overcome terrorism. They called for stronger institutions, transparency, and improved military welfare.
Nigeria’s armed forces continue operations against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and armed bandit groups. Security agencies have recorded victories in several regions of the country.
However, attacks and kidnappings still occur in some affected communities. Consequently, the latest allegation has renewed conversations about defence spending and military procurement.
