Nwabueze fake agency — Prince George Buchi Nwabueze has broken his silence over the allegations that led President Bola Tinubu to order his arrest. He firmly denies operating a fake government agency, and he has now gone public with documents that he says prove otherwise.
Nwabueze serves as the National Coordinator and Executive Director of the National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office, the outfit at the center of the latest scandal rocking the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF. According to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, the office operated without presidential authorization and relied on collaborators inside the OSGF to secure space within the complex.
However, Nwabueze rejects that account entirely. Speaking with journalists over the weekend, he insisted that his office has functioned under OSGF supervision for sixteen years. Consequently, he argues, the claim that his outfit sprang up recently as a fraudulent scheme simply does not match the facts on the ground.
To strengthen his case, Nwabueze turned to social media. He shared what he describes as his official appointment letter, dated October 2025, on LinkedIn in order to counter the ICPC’s claim of illegality. Notably, the letter carries the signature of Permanent Secretary Nadungu Gagare, one of the three officials Tinubu suspended over the very allegations Nwabueze is now disputing. The document reportedly approved his appointment for a five-year tenure as National Coordinator of the project office.
Meanwhile, questions remain over how a supposedly unauthorized entity managed to build such an extensive structure. Investigations by local media found that the organization’s website listed a full administrative hierarchy, complete with a director of national administration, three zonal directors, and coordinators spread across twenty states. In addition, the outfit claimed representatives in both the United States and China, giving it the appearance of a fully functioning national and international operation.
Nevertheless, that same expansive footprint has now become a source of scrutiny. Investigators are examining how the office secured recognition, funding channels, and physical space within a high-security government complex if it truly lacked presidential backing. As a result, the gap between Nwabueze’s version of events and the ICPC’s findings has widened public interest in the case.
So far, attempts by reporters to independently verify the organization’s structure have run into obstacles. Phone lines listed on the group’s official website reportedly went unanswered, and messages sent to its leadership received no response before the story broke. This has only added to the uncertainty surrounding the office’s true status.
Meanwhile, the broader scandal continues to widen. The National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office is now the fourth allegedly fictitious body uncovered since April, following earlier revelations involving the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and two other agencies. Consequently, the Federal Government has ordered a forensic review of internal processes to determine how such offices were able to operate undetected for years.
For now, Nwabueze maintains that he did nothing wrong, and he appears determined to fight the allegations publicly rather than go into hiding. Whether his appointment letter will hold up under ICPC scrutiny remains uncertain, but his response has already shifted part of the conversation toward the OSGF officials who allegedly signed off on his role in the first place.
As the investigation progresses, all eyes will likely turn to the suspended permanent secretaries, since their alleged involvement could determine whether Nwabueze’s defense gains traction or collapses under further review.
