Obasanjo calls for unity, peaceful coexistence among Owu Sons and daughters in Osun

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo called for unity among the sons and daughters of Owu Kingdom in Nigeria and in diaspora.

Chief Obasanjo made the statement at the 29th anniversary of Owu kingdom held at the Palace of HRH Oba Oyelude Makama at Owu Kuta in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday, December 5, 2020.

Olowu of Kuta, HRH Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama and all Owus in Kwara State, Ogun State, Oyo State and Osun and others in diaspora gathered at Owu Kuta to celebrate the 29th anniversary of Owu Day with funfare.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo who is also the Balogun of Owu was a cynosure of all eyes at the special event.

Master of Ceremony of the occasion, Kola Olootu was on hand to introduce special guests of honour including ‘who is who’ in Yoruba Theatre Industry including Ojo Pagogo, Olofaina, Aderupoko, Otun and several others.

The Special Lecture was delivered by the. Vice-Chancellor of Bowen University, Joshua Okalekan OGUNWOLE with a title; The Harmony In Owu Polity: A Recipe For A National Unity.

“The Owu Kingdom is synonymous with political acumen, military might, and an intentional consonance of shared interest across generations. This subgroup is a formidable example to the Yoruba race in the basis of her forged unity which is a pedestal for her contribution to the Nigerian society as well as her personal development. Currently, there 27 Owu settlements in Nigeria and the Diaspora.”

Oba Oyelude Makama who was the Chief Host thanked the former President Olusegun Obasanjo for making himself available at the special event. He expressed his gratitude to all sons and daughters who came from Owu Kingdom across the Southwest states and diaspora to witness the 29th anniversary.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had their thanksgiving at the ultra modern event centre at the palace before the main event on the open field within the palace.
