OSUN: Foremost Anti-graft Agency, ICPC Stages Rally Against Corruption

As part of efforts aimed at creating more awareness in the campaign against corruption in Nigeria, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission(ICPC) in collaboration with Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital College (OAUTH), Osun State has organized an awareness walk and lecture to mark this year’s International Anti-corruption Day (IACD).

 

 

 

The IACD comes up every 9th of December as part of measures to tackle corruption in the continent and the theme is “Uniting the World Against Corruption for Development, Peace and Security “.

 

Speaking at the event, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of Osun State Office, Mr. Demola Bakare fsi said, ICPC being the foremost anti-graft agency in Nigeria has vigorously pursued the implementation of its mandate of eradicating corruption on all fronts through some initiatives which are Students Anti -Corruption Clubs in Primary and Secondary Schools, Students Anti -corruption Vanguard in Higher Institution, ICPC/NYSC Anti-corruption group, Anti-corruption and Transparency Units( ACTUs)in over 404 Government Establishments , and platforms for Civil Society Organisations.

Also, he made it known that phase 5 of the Commission ‘s Tracking Initiative carried out from November 2022, Osun State office of the Commission tracked 28 projects worth #851,613,219. 48 and five(5) contractors , 18 companies were asked to return to sites for projects valued at #403,895,416.39.

 

 

In addition, in 2023 out of the 443 projects tracked nationwide amounting to ₦58bn, a total of 95 capital projects amounting to ₦10.8bn were allocated to South West. Eighty-Five projects worth ₦8.028 billion were tracked by Osun State Office of the Commission.

 

Also the Chief Medical Director of
Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital College ( OAUTH) in his welcome speech said corruption is a global problem that affect every aspect of development, including the Health Sector, Human Rights, Gender Equality and so on.

He added that corruption undermines the competency and integrity of health workers and institutions which deprive millions of people affordable health care and services and fuel the spread of diseases and pandemic, resulting in inability to sustain the institution.

 

He maintained that the institution was proud to host the event and they are willing to join the global movement and voice to promote Transparency, Accountability and Integrity.

 

 

The ACTU Chairman in his welcome of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital College, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, urge the Staff of the hospital to uphold the culture of Integrity and say ” No to Corruption”.
