THE Osun State Police Command on Thursday, February 17, 2022 warned all the Political parties in Osun State against violence as the preparation for the Governorship elections in the state is gathering momentum.
DCP Kanayo Val delivered the statement on behalf of the Osun State Commissioner, CP Olawale Olokode, he said the meeting with all the representatives of all the political parties in the state was necessary to bring about peace and tranquility the state is known for.
Kannayo enjoined all parties to play the games by the rules and be guided by the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Kanayo frowned at anything that could breach the peaceful atmosphere of the State,
“It is mperative for me to warn politicians and other people in the state to avoid taking law into their hands and always trust that Osun State Police Command is always gallant and will do the right thing if properly briefed.
All processions, primaries, consultation visits and rallies must be peaceful, in accordance with the electoral act and respect the right and safety of other people.
The idea of unnecessary blocking of roads during campaigns, rallies and processions without due process, attacking innocent citizens unjustly, and assaulting security men on duty will not be tolerated. Anyone, irrespective of his status, who breaches public peace, would be punished according to the law.
I want to urge the youths not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs or as destructive agents. I equally advise the so-called political thugs to, in their interest, vacate the state immediately as the command will not condone any act of indiscipline or allow anybody to truncate the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
Osun Police command has zero tolerance for violence as we do not know any political party or group, so anybody caught fomenting buble would be decisively dealt with as the command would condone any act of indiscipline and lawlessness.”
All the political parties present signed the Peace Agreement to maintain peace throughout the election period.
Among political parties represented at the program are YPP, APC, SDP, PDP and ADC.
