The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Monday 24th, October 2022 disclosed that with the modern methods of interrogation, torture is no longer allowed and it is totally condemned.

He also said it is outdated nowadays to force anyone to write statements at police station under duress or writing against himself or herself, while policemen must get the consent of someone who cannot read or write in order to help him or her to write the statement.

Adejobi wrote these on his Twitter handle on Monday following complaints about how policemen still allegedly torture suspects inside cells to extract information from them, as some have also alleged that there are torture cells in some police station.

Adejobi however debunked the allegations, saying it’s so sad for him to hear that people are still forced to write statements against themselves under duress while adding that torture is also out of fashion.

He said with the modern model or method of interrogation or interview, there is no need to torture suspects before he confesses while forcing people to write statements against themselves is no longer acceptable.
