POLICEMAN caught on viral video, harassing, searching civilian phones in trouble

THE Policeman in a viral video who was caught harassed and searched a civilian phone along Osbond Way, Ikoyi, Lagos has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

The policeman was caught on video searching the phones of some young men under the guise of carrying out a stop and search.

It would be recalled that SOJ WORLDWIDE published the story on Sunday, August 7, 2022 where the erring officer  forcefully harassed the civilian.

The video had gone viral, prompting the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to order their immediate arrest.

One of the policemen has been identified as Opeyemi Kadiri, with force number 509745.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on his official Twitter handle.

He said:

“The officer who searched the civilian’s phone has been handed over to the provost for disciplinary action, pending their transfer to Force Headquarters, Abuja, for further disciplinary measures.

“The video clearly shows assault on the part of the officer. Further, it was established that there was no extortion, nor was there any arrest or detention,” he added.
