Robbers Kills POS Operator, Dispossess Her Of Daily Sales In Akure

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers struck at Oke-Ogba off Agagu Road in Akure the capital city of Ondo State on Wednesday killing a Point of Sales, POS Operator and carted away sales made for the day.

An eye witness account had it that the gunmen had earlier on monitored the movement of the lady and waited till 7:30pm before attacking her.

It was gathered that when the gunmen demanded from the lady the day’s proceeds, she struggled with them and later took to her heels after they had overpowered her.

As she took to her heels, the source said one of the armed men opened fire on her and shot her at a close range.

She was later rushed to an undisclosed hospital where she was confirmed dead.

Residents who spoke under condition of anonymity said they now live in fear due to increasing rate of armed robbery in areas such as Ajipowo, Ogundipe, Shagari Village and Ijoka.

They said the incident paralysed commercial activities and movements of people into the community that night.

They however called on the security operatives in the state to come to their aid and nip in the bud the ugly trend.

Confirming the report, the Ondo State Police Public Relation Officer, Mr Femi Joseph said: “The young woman happened to be POS operator as the guys have obviously been monitoring her movements and when it was dark, at about 7:30pm they went to her to dispossess her of her proceeds.

Joseph added that investigation have commenced and assured that those involved in the act will be brought to justice.

He disclosed that, the Police Commissioner is not relaxed on it as he met with the senior officers of the Command on Wednesday and would be meeting with them again soonest to register this kind of incident.

The Police PPRO said mentioned that,” it has not being happening in the Metro but we know how to deal with such. Admitting that It is our job and we will ensure that such things no longer happens in any where not only in Akure but in Ondo State.
