A 300 level student of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Olona Joseph Oluwapelumi, in the Department of Industrial Design has committed suicide.
The young man was said to have taken his own life by hanging himself.
His Death was confirmed by the students’ union government in a statement on Saturday, January 21,2023.

There were speculations that the deceased chose suicide over financial issues.
The tragic incident occurred at his off campus lodge around Aule area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
It was gathered that his close friends in the early hours of Saturday went to his room and discovered it was locked, after several calls without response, the door was broken.

Upon gaining entry, his body was discovered hanging with the buckets with which he aided the act.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command,Funmi Odunlami, also confirmed the death in a statement on Saturday January 21,2023.
“His body had been taken to the morgue, and investigation has started to unravel the reasons behind his action, but it was a case of suicide.” the PPRO said.
