According to eyewitnesses, the situation began after a male student was accused of inappropriately touching another male student identified as Agehgeh.

Following the allegation, a crowd of students reportedly confronted the accused. Tension quickly escalated, which led to chaos within the hostel environment.

In the viral video, several students can be seen chasing the suspect while shouting and attempting to physically attack him. At some point, the situation nearly turned violent before intervention prevented a tragic outcome.

Students React as Situation Escalates

Many students at the scene appeared angry and emotionally charged. As a result, some attempted to take matters into their own hands.

However, other students urged restraint. They called for calm and warned against mob justice. They also insisted that university authorities should handle the matter appropriately.

Despite these calls, the tension remained high for several minutes, causing fear among hostel residents.

Social Media Outrage

After the video emerged online, Nigerians reacted strongly. While some users condemned the alleged misconduct, many others criticised the attempted lynching.

Several commentators described the incident as dangerous and unlawful. They stressed that no allegation justifies mob action, regardless of the circumstances.

Others also warned that such behaviour could lead to loss of lives and serious legal consequences.

University Yet to Speak

As of the time of filing this report, the management of the University of Abuja has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, students and concerned Nigerians are calling on the school authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. They also want everyone involved to be questioned according to the institution’s disciplinary rules.

Call for Due Process

Legal experts have repeatedly warned that mob justice is a criminal offence under Nigerian law. They emphasise that allegations of misconduct must be reported and investigated through proper channels.

They further urged universities to strengthen campus security and educate students on peaceful ways to resolve conflicts.
