Uzodimma Imo West Senate bid — The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Imo West Senatorial ticket under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Uzodimma announced his decision through a statement shared on his verified Facebook account on Sunday, thereby ending weeks of political speculation surrounding his next political move ahead of the forthcoming elections.
In the statement, the governor expressed appreciation to party stakeholders and supporters across Imo West, popularly known as Orlu Zone, for their continued confidence in his leadership.

“After wide consultations with leaders, stakeholders, and the good people of Imo West, I have accepted the call to serve our people at the National Assembly,” Uzodimma reportedly stated.
Meanwhile, the declaration has further intensified the political contest within the APC in Imo West Senatorial District as other influential politicians have also shown strong interest in the seat.
Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, alongside the incumbent senator representing the zone, Senator Osita Izunaso, are also seeking the APC ticket for the senatorial position.
Political observers believe the contest may become one of the most closely watched intra-party battles in the state due to the calibre of aspirants involved.
Furthermore, APC leaders from Imo West had, about two weeks ago, publicly declared Uzodimma as their consensus candidate. The party leaders also confirmed the purchase of the APC nomination form for the governor, insisting that he remains their preferred choice for the seat.
“Governor Uzodimma has demonstrated quality leadership and deserves our total support for the Senate,” one of the party leaders reportedly said during the earlier endorsement gathering.
However, supporters of other aspirants have continued mobilization efforts across the zone, insisting that the contest should remain open and competitive.
As political activities continue to gather momentum in Imo State, analysts expect intense consultations, negotiations, and strategic alignments among APC stakeholders before the party’s primary election.
The development has already generated mixed reactions among party faithful and political observers, with many closely monitoring how the APC leadership will manage the growing competition among top political figures within the party.
