
12 Brigade neutralize terrorist in Kogi—Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army recorded another operational success against suspected terrorists operating in Kogi State after carrying out a coordinated ambush operation within the Adankolo Forest Reserve in Lokoja Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the troops acted on credible intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists along identified bandit crossing routes inside the forest reserve.
The statement revealed that troops from the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group positioned themselves at a suspected crossing point in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026.
During the operation, the troops encountered the terrorists and immediately engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
The soldiers neutralized one terrorist during the encounter, while several others escaped into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds.
Troops also recovered several weapons and valuable items from the scene after the successful operation.
The recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, one fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The troops further recovered one camouflage bandolier, one Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks, and the sum of Sixty-Two Thousand, Nine Hundred Naira (₦62,900).
“The successful operation forms part of ongoing efforts by 12 Brigade Nigerian Army under Operation TIGER PAW II to deny terrorists freedom of action and enhance security along major routes and communities within Kogi State and adjoining areas,” the statement said.
The Army added that troops are currently combing the general area to track and apprehend the fleeing terrorists.
Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, signed the statement.
Security forces have intensified operations across parts of Kogi State in recent months as agencies continue efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and armed banditry affecting communities and highways.
The latest operation highlights the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening security and disrupting criminal activities within the region.
