Arochukwu LGA allocation — Fresh concerns have emerged among residents and stakeholders in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State over the reported ₦13.7 billion federal allocation received by the council between June 2023 and March 2026 following the removal of fuel subsidy.
Citizens are now demanding accountability and visible development projects across critical sectors including Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), primary schools, rural roads, water supply, and sanitation.
According to figures circulating on social media, Arochukwu LGA reportedly received the following allocations:
- June – December 2023: ₦1,773,156,105.35
- January – December 2024: ₦4,418,125,964.34
- January – December 2025: ₦6,043,134,924.38
- January – March 2026: ₦1,628,270,242.90

The total allocation within the 34-month period stands at approximately ₦13,759,510,479.
Reacting to the figures, several concerned residents questioned the visible impact of the huge inflow of funds on infrastructure and social services within the council area.
“Where is the subsidy money? Can the local government clearly point to projects executed with over ₦13 billion received since subsidy removal?” a resident queried.
Another stakeholder noted that many communities in the area still struggle with poor access roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, and dilapidated primary school structures despite the increased federal allocations.
“People want to see functioning PHCs, renovated schools, rural electrification, and good roads. The level of development on ground does not reflect the volume of money reportedly received,” the stakeholder stated.
Furthermore, community observers argued that the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government was partly justified with promises of increased revenue to states and local governments for grassroots development.
However, residents insist that transparency, public project records, and periodic accountability reports have become necessary to assure citizens that public funds are being properly utilized.
Meanwhile, civic groups have continued to call for stronger financial oversight at the local government level, especially now that allocations to councils have significantly increased across the country.
As public scrutiny intensifies, many residents of Arochukwu LGA are urging the council authorities to provide detailed explanations of projects executed with the funds received within the last 34 months.
