COVID19: Farmers Lament Poor Sales, Poor Patronage, Needs FG Intervention

Major farmers who deal in fisheries and piggeries in the Southwest are lamenting poor sales and patronage as a result of the lockdown order across the states and border closure.

The farmers are calling for the intervention of the Federal Government by patronising them at this crucial time of this lockdown.

The MD/CEO of Alabake  Farms complained that his sales of pigs in Benin Republic has dropped drastically since the border closure.

He talked about his plight, “The plight of pig farmers stems from the fact that buyers of pigs come mostly from Benin Republic and since the closure of Nigerian borders with Benin Republic, sales have dropped drastically or in some cases, even stopped totally especially for farmers along borders in some states.”

“Buyers within Nigeria mostly patronize only few large outlet. My proposal is that government should patronize our private piggery farms, process the pigs and add to items being distributed as covid-19 palliatives.”

Also the CEO of Dominion Farms, Akingboye igbekele Jacob also expressed his shock in the drop of sales of fish products and eggs,and chicken in which most of fish farmers were forced to oven-dry their products due to extremely low sales we hereby urge the government to kindly do something about it.”
