The dollar to naira rate today shows the naira holding firm on Friday, October 9, 2026. Both the official and parallel markets stayed within a tight band. At the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the dollar traded around ₦1,329.34, according to Vanguard. Meanwhile, black market dealers quoted the dollar at roughly ₦1,385. Sojworldnews has compiled today’s rates for major currencies and crypto in the table below. Here is how the markets stand across the board.

The official rate has barely moved this month. In fact, it has stayed between ₦1,327 and ₦1,332 since early October. On Wednesday, the naira traded at ₦1,331.77, up from ₦1,340 the previous day. Legit.ng reported that the currency reached “its strongest position in two years.” As a result, the naira now sits well above its January level of about ₦1,432.

The black market tells a slightly different story. Dealers quoted the dollar between ₦1,370 and ₦1,390 over the past two days. For example, one aggregator listed ₦1,375 to buy and ₦1,390 to sell. Aboki Forex put the rate at ₦1,370 on Thursday. Consequently, the gap between the two markets sits near ₦56. That premium looks small compared with January, when dealers quoted between ₦1,485 and ₦1,500.

The parallel rate has also edged up this week. On Monday, AbokiFX quoted ₦1,355 to buy and ₦1,365 to sell, according to RateCaptain. Since then, the street price has risen by about ₦20. Even so, the black market has recovered roughly ₦350 from its 2024 levels. That equals a 25.55 percent gain, Legit.ng reported.

Several factors support the local currency. First, external reserves have climbed to nearly $55 billion. In addition, a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria shared July’s inflow data. Autonomous sources supplied about 68 percent of the $10.82 billion. Vanguard noted that “robust foreign reserves and steady trade flows” continue to anchor the naira. Newsclick agrees that the naira “has strengthened over the course of 2026.”

Other currencies also trade above their official rates on the street. Thursday’s data shows the pound selling for about ₦1,880, while the euro sold for ₦1,590. By comparison, the official rates stood near ₦1,757.93 and ₦1,489.05 respectively. The Canadian dollar traded around ₦1,000, almost level with its official ₦990. Furthermore, the table lists the yen, Saudi riyal and Swiss franc.

Traders should read the table carefully. The buy column shows what dealers pay, while the sell column shows what customers pay. Likewise, the official column serves as a benchmark rather than a street price. Meanwhile, rates for the yen, riyal and franc come from reference data and move less often. Additionally, the crypto figures reflect global prices, not local exchange quotes.

Cryptocurrency prices fell as well. According to CoinGecko data, bitcoin traded near $81,900, down 1.5 percent in 24 hours. Ethereum dropped 3.8 percent to about $2,480. Moreover, the global crypto market capitalisation slipped 2.5 percent to $2.86 trillion. Sentiment cooled too, as the Fear and Greed Index eased to 59. At ₦1,390 per dollar, bitcoin equals roughly ₦113.8 million, while ethereum equals about ₦3.45 million.

The spread still matters to many Nigerians. Importers, students paying overseas fees and families receiving remittances all feel the difference. Therefore, buyers should compare prices before they trade. Rates also vary by city and by bureau de change operator.

Looking ahead, traders will watch foreign exchange turnover and reserve movements as the final quarter progresses. Overall, analysts urge caution despite the recent gains. Foreign exchange markets can shift quickly, and crypto prices swing even faster. Sojworldnews will keep tracking the markets and will update these figures as new data arrives. Readers should treat all figures as indicative and confirm prices before any transaction.
