Activist and politician Deji Adeyanju has declared himself bigger than Peter Obi, the former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate. Adeyanju made the claim during an interview with Mic On. He also dismissed Obi’s usefulness to the opposition ahead of the next election, and he insisted that he will prove every past allegation against Obi in court.

The two men are locked in a bitter feud, and Adeyanju made no effort to hide it. He said Obi dislikes him, and he returned the sentiment. “The feeling is mutual,” he said. According to Adeyanju, Obi has sent almost all of his aides to insult him, including a woman he identified only as Sarah.

However, Adeyanju refused to trade blows with those aides. He explained that engaging them would drag him down to their level. “Whenever I join issues with your aides, then I am at your aides’ level,” he said. Instead, he chose to direct his comments at Obi himself.

Adeyanju believes his refusal to respond to the aides hurts Obi. In fact, he argued that this silence is the very reason Obi took him to court. “He wanted to take me to the level of his aides. I refuse,” he said. Moreover, he insisted that nothing about the legal dispute has changed his position.

The interviewer then pressed him to repeat his earlier claims against Obi, but Adeyanju declined. He maintained, though, that his past statements were accurate. “Every single thing I said about him is the truth, and we are in court, and I will prove it,” he said.

Next, Adeyanju explained why he considers himself the bigger man. He pointed to his record of struggle rather than public office. “The things I have achieved in my life as a human, he can never achieve them,” he said. He argued that serving as governor is not the greatest act of service to the country. Furthermore, he claimed that Obi has never seen the four walls of a prison, never faced gunfire and never suffered arrest at the hands of the military.

Adeyanju then described his own sacrifices. “I have made more sacrifice for the country. I have almost been killed more than 17 times,” he said, adding that he faced those risks while fighting for democracy. He questioned what Obi knows about democracy beyond enjoying its benefits, and he extended that question to members of the National Assembly.

Adeyanju also challenged Obi’s record beyond his time in office. “What has he done aside from being governor of Anambra?” he asked. In addition, he questioned the source of the money used to set up a bank associated with Obi and suggested the public should start discussing it. He offered no evidence for the insinuation. Instead, he told the interviewer to do the research. Sojworldnews could not independently verify the claim, and the interview did not include a response from Obi.

Turning to the next election, Adeyanju painted a bleak picture. He said he sees no pathway for the opposition unless Obi performs very well in the South. Even then, he doubted that Obi could prove useful to the party, partly because he believes Obi dislikes him and has shown no interest in working with him.

Meanwhile, the court case between the two men continues, and Adeyanju has repeatedly promised to present his evidence there. Obi has not responded publicly to the latest remarks. Sojworldnews will update this story as soon as either side comments.
