Gunmen kill four traders in Imo in fresh attack


There was pandemonium in Anara market, in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State when gunmen shot four traders dead on Tuesday night.

Suspected gunmen who operated in a white sienna vehicle were said to have opened fire at the market thereby killing four persons.

Our correspondent during a visit learned that the incident occurred around 8:30pm while the traders were preparing to close for the day.

A team of angry looking policemen were also sighted at the crime scene.

A source close to the market leadership who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Wednesday afternoon, saying the attackers opened fire on a woman selling cooked food, killing three on the spot and one person who was rushed to a hospital later gave up the ghost.

He said the attackers invaded the market in a vehicle and shot sporadically at the traders.

“They (attackers) who went in their vehicle and didn’t alight from the vehicle shot sporadically at the traders without provocation then drove away, immediately,” he said.

DAILY POST also gathered that corpses of three of the persons who died immediately were evacuated on Wednesday morning.

When contacted, the police spokesperson for the state, Micheal Abattam, said that the state commissioner of police, Rabiu Hussaini, had ordered for an investigation into the killings.

DAILY POST reports that the attack occurred 5day after gunmen stormed Obowo LGA in the state and killed 3 people.
