ICPC arrests El-Rufai’s personal doctor — In a related development, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) confirmed the arrest of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s personal physician, Professor Bello Abubakar.
According to the commission, Professor Abubakar allegedly made false statements regarding El-Rufai’s medical visit.
“Our investigation uncovered discrepancies in the statements provided during the inquiry. Consequently, we arrested the suspect to assist with ongoing investigations,” the ICPC said.
Meanwhile, the criminal proceedings against El-Rufai continue before a Kaduna court.
Earlier court rulings kept the former governor in ICPC custody while the case continues. Consequently, prosecutors are expected to present additional evidence as the trial progresses.
However, El-Rufai’s legal team insists that he is innocent. The defence also maintains that it will challenge all allegations during the trial.
Furthermore, the ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to due process.
“We will continue to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation while allowing the court to determine the outcome of the case,” the commission stated.
