An 18-year-old apprentice has allegedly impregnated at least ten girls in Anambra State, sparking widespread concern and prompting a call for public advice from state authorities.
The development was revealed by Anambra State Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, in a video shared on social media on Tuesday.
Obinabo explained that the case was brought to her attention by the boy’s mother, who expressed distress over the rising number of pregnancies allegedly linked to her son.
“Anytime she sees a girl approaching her house, her heart jumps,” the commissioner quoted the mother as saying.
Obinabo noted that the boy was initially sent to serve as an apprentice but was dismissed after three months for impregnating both his master’s daughter and the salesgirl.
“After he was sent packing, he returned to his village and in two months, impregnated eight more girls,” Obinabo said.
The commissioner stated that the situation has become too complex for her office to handle and urged members of the public to suggest possible solutions.
“This matter is beyond me; that’s the reason I want the public to help me come up with a solution. Is it spiritual?” she asked.

Obinabo said she had questioned the boy on his method of luring the girls, to which he responded that he simply told them he loved them and planned to marry them once he became wealthy.
The commissioner refrained from disclosing the boy’s community or family name, citing sensitivity around the matter.
She described the boy’s actions as highly disturbing, particularly due to his age and the number of girls allegedly affected.
“This problem is beyond me because of the boy’s age and the number of pregnant girls involved,” she said.
Obinabo appealed for collaborative input from the public, traditional institutions, and religious bodies to determine the best course of action.
As of the time of the report, no official statement had been issued by the police or child protection agencies regarding a formal investigation.
The case has attracted significant attention on social media, with users expressing shock and demanding immediate intervention by state authorities.
