Kogi State on a reconciliation path, high powered delegation sent to Dr. Tom Ohikere, others to broker peace

DR. TOM OHIKERE: The battles that seemed not to have a terminal date in Kogi State is beginning to gather momentum for peace in a state known for notorious turbulence under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello.

The findings conducted by SOJWORLD.COM confirmed that the governor has sent high powered leaders of thought which includes serving and ex-honourables to go round the aggrieved in Kogi polity for a truce especially as 2019 draw near.
Among the earliest opinion leader visited is the two term former Commissioner for Information, Dr. Tom Ohikere who parted ways with his good friend, governor Bello immediately after the APC primary in the state.
Information gathered from Dr. Ohikere’s camp after the first consultation from the eminent men from the state was that he was ready to broker peace with Governor Bello in the interest of the people of Kogi state but it has to be an all inclusive reconciliation.
Dr. Ohikere said, “Political struggle is always a rainbow colour of the coming together of varied interests , which later leads to clash of interests, if not well managed .
The ability of the players and leaders to identify and give due recognition to the individual interests at play for the survival of the collective interest of the society always bring sustainable political and economic development.”

“Considering the above obvious reasons, I deem it morally right to encourage the reconciliation committee set up by GYB. I also felt they should broaden the horizon for a more maximum results. BUT THERE MUST BE SINCERITY AND COMMITMENT TO PURPOSE BY ALL THE PARTIES.
I am forced to make this categorical statement to prevent the situations where some persons misinterpret me unconsciously or deliberately. I AM NOT MORE THAN EBIRALAND and the interest of the land is paramount.”
“Enough of some people taking advantage of my political difference with Bello for their individual gains.”

In his second public statement made available to SOJWORLD.COM, Dr. Ohikere mentioned names of some of the big wigs, who constituted the reconciliation committee,

“Amongst the members that met with me were Hon. Mohammed Sadiq, Rt hon Abdullahi Bello,Hon Aziz King, Hajia Ladi Ibrahim, Alh. Yahaya Karaku , Hon.Bello aka chop knuckle, Hon. Tinko, Hon.Ozi Ahovi and others.”

According to him, “The meeting was thought provoking and timely. We exchanged notes but the future will surely depend on the sincerity of purpose among the parties, including myself.”
“The former Commissioner for Information in the state said further that before he could give his final decision he needs to consult with his political associates and friends, “Pursuance to my principles and philosophy of life, I will consult with my associates and friends that have sustained political relationship with me in the trying period before my final decisions.”
I want to use this opportunity to thank the committee for their visit and advise.”
“I am a strong believer of the fact that no individual is bigger or stronger than his society with the fact that the collective interest of the society far outweighs the individual interest.

But as politics is a game of interest and relevance, I have only simply proved myself in the last two and half years. I cannot be a pushed over.”
“In the weeks ahead, I am expecting the government to practically prove their commitment to payment of salaries and the improvement of the welfare of the people. While I am also expecting peaceful moves towards reconciliation with Hon James Faleke and Senator Dino Melaye . These will be the eloquent testimony of the readiness of the state government to move forward.
In the interest of peace and unity, I enjoin our people to embark on honest moves towards Dino and Faleke, while I promise to do same too.”
