According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the operation followed a complaint lodged at the Mowe Division on May 17, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m.
The complainant, a resident of Omo Onile area in Mowe, said she visited a clinic on May 16, 2026, for medical treatment.
While receiving care, the female suspect allegedly approached her and pretended to care about her condition.
The suspect then offered to help look after the woman’s four-month-old baby while she rested.
However, after taking the baby, the suspect allegedly disappeared.
Immediately after receiving the report, detectives launched a manhunt for the suspects.
In addition, officers placed motor parks and other strategic locations under surveillance. They also intensified intelligence-led operations across the area.
Acting on credible intelligence, detectives traced the suspects to their hideout at Kekere Ekun area of Mowe on May 18, 2026, at about 7:55 p.m.
During the operation, officers rescued the stolen baby alongside two other children discovered in the suspects’ custody.
The police quickly arrested both suspects.
Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the rescued children had earlier been declared missing in a 2024 child stealing case.
Investigators said the child was allegedly taken from a hairdressing salon using the same deceptive method.
The suspect reportedly pretended to offer help before disappearing with the child.
Meanwhile, the biological parents of two rescued children have identified their wards.
“Our officers acted swiftly and professionally immediately the complaint was received. Their proactive response led to the successful arrest of the suspects and the rescue of the children,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised officers and men of the Mowe Division for their commitment and professionalism.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains fully committed to combating child trafficking, abduction, and other violent crimes across the state. We will continue to intensify intelligence-led policing to ensure the safety of residents,” CP Ojajuni stated.
Furthermore, the police transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation.
The Command also advised parents and guardians to remain vigilant and avoid leaving children with strangers, especially in public places and healthcare facilities.
