The students of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa are currently facing untold hardships in the hands of hoodlums who raped, threatened their lives and robbed them of their valuables on daily basis.
The students came out in large numbers to protest the incessant attacks by robbers suspected to be indigenes of the community.
A Save Our Soul (S.O.S) letter was sent by one of the students (name withheld) to SOJ WORLDWIDE,. http://www.sojworldnews.com to prevail on the State Government led by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to come to the rescue of the students.
The school activities has been closed for two weeks by the School Management over the protests embarked upon by the students during the week.

The issue of insecurity have started since I entered this institute of higher learning and which is also common in other institutes but the one happening now has become more rampant than the one we have been experiencing.
We called on the Management of Olusegiun Agagu University of Science and Technology but till now, all we got was two weeks break due to the last protest we had on Thursday 24th of June, 2021.
We initially had one protest some weeks back and we thought the Management of our school would find something to do on the issue of insecurity but instead our SUG President was charged to face the Panel many times by the Management and he was warned to stop any form of protest.

As a victim of the ongoing insecurity going on mainly in the student environment I would like to narrate what I experienced;
“Since I have been in Okitipupa which for almost six years now, I have not set my eyes on electricity and we have been surviving on Generator as the only means of reading, Pumping of water , charging of our gadgets, printings and other things that are needed to be done with electricity.
Most students Logde have secured themselves at least with one generator (including “I better pass my neighbor” Tiger Gen) so as to ease the problem of running around for charging and most importantly pumping of water for our use.
So, on the 11th of May 2021 we put on our generator ON as usual and all of us were busy attending to different stuffs on our laptops and phones and we didn’t notice those robbers have paraded to carry out their deadly act. We were five girls as the occupant of the four bedroom flat and I always stay inside one of my friend’s room leaving mine empty.
Later that day I went to bed around 12am and I woke up again later but didn’t bother to check the time I woke up. I woke up due to my phone that was vibrating and I picked up the call, not up to 30 minutes I heard a very loud noise from the other room and I was wondering what might have caused the noise.
Barely a minute, I heard the noise again and I quickly tapped my friend to stand up . We were terrified and we couldn’t move not until the person that shouted came to our room and said “ You people should stand up they have entered our flat with slaughtering knife”.
The girl who shouted was stabbed on her arm while trying to defend herself from the desperate thief trying to collect her gadget, he stabbed her and go. Few flesh were cut with the knife during the struggle as well. She sustained a severe injury.
They successfully packed six phones, bags, Mp3 and all the cash in the rooms but our SIMS were found on the floor outside.
We went to the police station to tell them about our experience but we were told that since they didn’t stab her so deep we don’t have any cause for alarm though we were told to write down our statements which we did.
We moved to Amotekun Squad as well and we were told to pay sum of N5000 before they could document our statements and in other for them to answer us anytime we call them for something related to robbery.
Due to the experience we had from both security agents we had no choice but to pack our personal effects and leave the house since we discovered that we are no longer safe anymore and since then we have moved out and we have been squatting with our friends.
The rate at which the indigenes robbed and stole students’ properties, raped some girls and even tried killing/ slaughthering many students is alarming.
One of the victims stabbed was just discharged last week after a month of being in the hospital.
We need the intervention of the Government to rescue us from these people because they have started using guns now and some of the indigenes are even threatening of killing the students and attacking us with charms.
We are calling on the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu to save us from these deadly marauders threatening us daily in Okitipupa.
WE JUST WANT TO BE SAFE.
