Oshiomhole backs Okpebholo execution plan — BENIN CITY, NIGERIA – Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has thrown his weight behind Governor Monday Okpebholo‘s proposed policy to execute convicted kidnappers and cultists in the state.
Speaking on the growing insecurity in Edo, Oshiomhole argued that the measure would serve as a strong deterrent to criminals. He added that it would also help restore public confidence in safety.
“It will keep those who want to go into kidnapping in check.”
The senator stressed that kidnapping has become a serious threat to lives, businesses, and economic activities. Therefore, he maintained that tougher punishment is necessary to discourage would-be offenders.
Furthermore, Oshiomhole expressed support for Governor Okpebholo’s determination to confront criminal activities, especially kidnapping and cult-related violence, which have continued to trouble parts of Edo State.

“It will keep those who want to go into kidnapping in check,” Oshiomhole said while defending the governor’s proposed policy.
However, the proposed plan has generated mixed reactions across the country. While supporters believe stricter penalties could reduce violent crimes, critics have urged authorities to ensure that every accused person receives a fair trial. They also emphasized the need for transparency in the administration of justice.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has continued to reaffirm its commitment to improving security and protecting residents from criminal elements.
As discussions continue, stakeholders are expected to weigh the proposal’s potential impact on crime prevention, human rights, and the justice system.
