It will be recalled that throughout the two-term tenure of the former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, the rehabilitation of Osogbo-Iwo Highway was a mirage despite important personalities coming from that side of the ancient city of Iwo.
The issue of Osogbo-Iwo Highway have become agenda setting in electioneering campaigns for politicians to woo voters for votes anytime election is around the corner.
However, the successor of Aregbesola, former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and his Oyo State counterpart, Engr. Rotimi Makinde seemed to have broken the jinx of impossibility for the reconstruction of the highway.
Therefore, history was made on October 27, 2022 in Osogbo, Osun State capital, as former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his Oyo State counterpart, Engr. Seyi Makinde, jointly flagged-off the reconstruction of Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road awarded to contractors at N24 billion.

The two governors put their political differences aside and embarked on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 91-kilometre road, which they said would improve the economic potentials of the two states.
While Osun section of the road, measuring about 55 kilometres, was awarded to Messrs Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited at N11,309,932,939.00 and the Oyo State section of the road, measuring about 36 kilometres was awarded at N12.5 billion.
Unfortunately, Oyetola’s second term became a dream that never to come to pass when he lost to the incumbent Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke swung into action with a promise to dualize the road to certain kilometers from Dele Yes Sir.
Adeleke actually dualized the road for the few kilometers in his first 100 days in office. Portion of the long stretch of the road were graded for few months with the hope that the it will be completed in 12 months.

In all honesty, the road is now worse now than Adeleke met it except for about three kilometers he dualized out of 55 kilometers from Dele Yes Sir.
Since Adeleke told Osun residents that government was a continuum, why has there been a logjam for the reconstruction of the road? Has this portion of the highway become a jinx for successive governments?
SOJ WORLDWIDE correspondents have been monitoring the road in the past two years, we can authoritatively confirm that work has since stopped on the highway in the past 18 months.
Our correspondents visited the road on May 17, 2025, the highway was met in dilapidated state was than as it was a year ago.
It should be noted that the road and many other roads in Osun State belonged to the Federal Government.
Most of theses roads are in total disrepair, this includes; Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa Expressway, Osogbo-Imesi-Okemesi Ekiti and Osogbo-Ilesa-Esa Oke Highways.
But Osun and Oyo states took it upon themselves for the reconstruction of Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan highway.
The neglect of this road is presently in total disrepair and neglect by the state government with passengers and motorists at the receiving end thereby threatening security of lives and economic wellbeing of the people in the area.
The people living in this axis are eagerly looking forward to Governor Adeleke to fulfill his promises on this highway to ease the sufferings of the users.
SOJ WORLDWIDE took over 60 photos of the damaged sections of the road but has to reduce number of the spots to showcase how bad the road is.
Osun residents will like to know the following:
- What happened to the contractor, Messrs Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited Oyetola awarded to contract to?
- How much was the company mobilized with, if any, by the former Governor?
- Has the incumbent government withdrawn the contract or the project abandoned by the company?
- When will Governor Adeleke come to the rescue of the users of this highway as promised? Passengers and motorists are waiting.
Meanwhile, the Spokesperson the Osun State Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed may have answered some of the probing questions while speaking with our correspondent.
He said the Governor will still use the existing contractor awarded the contract by former Governor Oyetola.
The contractor was said to have been paid mobilization fee by the former governor.
He added that the contractor have been remobilized to the site for the completion of Osogbo-Iwo Road. This includes Iwo Township roads in which mapping and costing of properties in the right of way will give way, have almost been completed for the takeoff of the project.
“The Iwo-Osogbo Road is for completion as quickly as possible. Governor Adeleke is determined to brake the jinx, he is determined that failed efforts in the past is not repeated.
I can confirm to you that the contractor have been remobilized to the site and Peculiar Engineering is set to deliver the job as soon as possible. The Governor recently hosted the Iwo leaders and he assured them that Iwo-Osogbo Road will be done, dusted and be completed. He assured them that dualization of Iwo Township roads from Adeleke to Post Office via the Palace will take off in earnest.
The Governor is determined for the completion of the job.
As for the Iwo Township road, we all know that the marking of the affected houses are ongoing, after the marking, the costing of the properties will be done and 21 days window will be given to the property owners to remove some valuable things and you can be sure that the construction will be starting in earnest.”
