The party described the reported violence as “uncalled for, wicked and barbaric.” It also urged security agencies to investigate the incident and prosecute anyone found responsible.
The APC issued the statement on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, five days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Ademola Adeleke winner of the Osun State governorship election.
According to the party, suspected Accord Party supporters attacked APC members in Iree after the election. The APC claimed that at least 10 of its members and supporters suffered serious injuries during the attacks.
The party also alleged that the attackers destroyed several properties and business premises belonging to its members.
Among the victims, the APC identified Ige Kayode, Oyeniyi Segun, Oladosu Yinka, Sobalaje Ibraheem, Peter Korede Adejare and others.
The party said the victims have received treatment in hospitals across Iree and neighbouring communities since Sunday.
Furthermore, the APC alleged that attackers completely demolished the town’s major motor park. It also claimed that the suspects damaged businesses belonging to APC supporters at different locations.
The party further raised concerns about the alleged involvement of the Aree of Iree, Oba Muritala Oyelakin.
According to the APC, a viral video showed the traditional ruler questioning an alleged victim of the attack at his residence. The party claimed that the victim, an APC member, appeared to face pressure during the questioning.
The APC also referred to a petition submitted by counsel to some affected members, Abiodun Olaide. According to the party, the lawyer sent the petition to the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibraheem Gotan.
The petition allegedly named Gbadamosi Ibraheem, popularly known as Gbedu Lasisi Oyekanmi Bintin Laye, and other suspects as alleged masterminds of the attacks.
However, the APC called on the police to investigate the allegations and establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The party also linked the current tension to political developments before the election. It claimed that the Aree of Iree had visited Governor Adeleke weeks before the poll and expressed confidence in his expected victory.
The APC further alleged that the monarch claimed that Iree residents had endorsed Adeleke for a second term.
That claim reportedly triggered reactions among APC members in the community. The party said its Iree chapter later rejected the alleged endorsement and insisted that it did not represent the position of the entire community.
According to the APC, the election results later showed strong support for the party in Iree, where it defeated the Accord Party.
The party also expressed concern over allegations that some attacked APC members later faced questioning at the palace.
The APC claimed that the alleged questioning sought to pressure victims into implicating some of its leaders in matters unrelated to them.
In addition, the party accused the monarch of allegedly directing the demolition of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) garage in Iree because of the political affiliations of some members.
The APC said the allegations have created “considerable tension” in Iree. It added that residents and political supporters now fear for their safety.
Consequently, the party called on the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), other security agencies and the Federal Government to intervene urgently.
The APC also demanded a comprehensive investigation into the reported attacks. It urged authorities to prosecute anyone who committed violence, intimidation or property destruction.
The party stressed that political differences should not fuel violence.
“Political differences must not become a justification for violence, intimidation or the destruction of means of livelihoods of the people,” the statement said.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to peace, democracy and the rule of law.
The statement was signed electronically by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information.
Sojworldnews cannot independently verify the allegations contained in the APC statement. The claims remain allegations pending responses from the accused individuals, the Accord Party, the traditional ruler and the relevant security authorities.
