Osun Police Command arrests eight suspected kidnappers after killing 65-year-old woman, three others

The Osun State Police Command has arrested eight suspected Kidnappers who allegedly murdered four of their victims in Benue State before relocating to Osun State to escape arrest.

They were arrested in Omo Ijesha village in Osun state after a tip off.

This was disclosed in a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Opalola Yemisi, on Saturday.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspected kidnappers were arrested following a case of the kidnap of a 65-year-old woman, Mrs. Akiishi Catherine in Benue state who was allegedly murdered by the suspects.

SP Yemisi confirmed that the suspected kidnappers abducted and murdered the woman in Benue state before relocating to Osun.

She further disclosed that the suspects also confessed to have murdered three other victims in their previous operations before moving to Osun state.

The police spokesperson revealed that the suspects have also planned to use Osun state as a safe haven for the negotiation and collection of ransom before they were arrested.

The statement read,

“The Osun State Police Command has arrested eight (8) members of a high-profile, serial kidnapping syndicate at Omo Ijesa village in Osun State. The suspects were arrested on 7th May, 2021 sequel to credible intelligence the command received and acted upon in a follow-up on a case of the kidnap of a 65-year-old, Mrs. Akiishi Catherine in Benue State. The operation was led by the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Olawale Olokode, psc.

“Prior to the arrest, Police investigations revealed that the suspects relocated to Osun State after the kidnap of the woman as a deceptive tactics to avoid arrest by the Police in Benue State. The suspects have also planned to use Osun State as a safe haven for the negotiation and collection of ransom even after murdering the woman in cold blood.

“The suspects are: Orikashima David (AKA Cash money) ‘m’ aged 22years, Teryange Demenogo (AKA Small) ‘m’ aged 22years, Terngu Tortindi (AKA Kareen) ‘m’ aged 25years, Anawuese Akough ‘f’ aged 19years, Mbalumulum Kaorga ‘f’ aged 18years, Comfort Terdoo ‘f’ aged 22years, Michael Msendoo ‘f’ aged 19years, Aondoaseer Terver ‘m’ 21years, all Tivs from Benue State.

“Meanwhile, Police investigations revealed that the suspects have murdered the kidnap victim, Mrs. Akiishi Catherine, in Benue State before relocating to Osun State. The suspects also revealed to the Police team how they have murdered three (3) other victims in their previous operations. The suspects would be handed over to the Benue State Police Command as soon as preliminary investigations are concluded.

“The CP, while commending his men for a job well done, reassured citizens that there will be no hiding place for criminals in the State. He notes that the new policing vision of the Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc is already assisting the command in redefining its strategies toward combating crimes in the State.

“The CP further calls for the support and collaboration of all the citizens in the State as all hands must be on deck to rid the State of all criminal elements threatening the socio-economic peace, security and safety of the people.”
