His Excellency, the Honourable Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Asiwaju Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola, stands out as one of the finest governors Osun State has ever produced. While Pa Bisi Akande and His Excellency, Prince Gen. Bar. Olagunsoye Ishola Oyinlola also left indelible marks on our generation, Oyetola’s leadership brought a unique blend of prudence, professionalism, and peace.

In a fair comparison between Asiwaju Gboyega Oyetola, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and Governor Ademola Adeleke, the distinction becomes undeniably clear. Oyetola is not only better educated but also more deliberate and composed in governance.

His four-year tenure—effectively only two years of active governance due to the disruptions of the EndSARS protests and the COVID-19 pandemic—still recorded impressive milestones.

Key Highlights of Oyetola’s Tenure:
•   No borrowing despite economic pressures.
•   Infrastructure development and debt servicing—clearing debts inherited from the Aregbesola administration.
•   Non-nepotistic leadership unlike the current administration, where Governor Adeleke doubles as Commissioner for Works.
•   Employment generation, particularly the recruitment of teachers and young professionals into the civil service—many of whom were later sacked by the Adeleke-led government and remain unreplaced.

Despite receiving massive federal allocations, Governor Adeleke’s achievements outside Ede—his hometown—are sparse. Beyond the ongoing flyovers in Osogbo, Ife, and Ilesa, citizens ask: what else has been done for the broader state?

With political reality shifting, many of Adeleke’s close allies have quietly distanced themselves. If he remains oblivious to this drift, the 2026 gubernatorial election will be a rude awakening.

A Call for Reflection:
For APC aspirants eyeing the governorship, this is a moment to reflect. Asiwaju Gboyega Oyetola still represents the party’s best chance at consolidating good governance and regaining the people’s trust. Unless he opts out of the race voluntarily, all eyes should be on him for 2026.
