Peter Obi resigns from ADC – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, following his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The ruling party said Obi’s latest political move shows he is once again searching for a platform where he can secure a presidential ticket without a fierce contest.
Obi announced his exit from the ADC on Sunday, citing deepening internal crises, growing hostility, and what he described as an increasingly toxic political environment within the party.
However, the APC dismissed those reasons. The party insisted that Obi left because he could not withstand the challenge of competing against other heavyweight aspirants within the ADC.
“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again,” presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said.

Onanuga described Obi’s explanation for leaving the ADC as unconvincing and self-serving.
According to him, Obi simply could not face the internal battle for the party’s presidential ticket, especially against prominent contenders like Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi.
“He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC. He pursues the easy road,” Onanuga added.
Obi, however, maintained that his decision had nothing to do with personal grievances against the party’s leadership.
He said he still holds ADC National Chairman David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in high regard.
Instead, Obi argued that the same forces that destabilised the Labour Party had begun infiltrating the ADC. He pointed to endless court cases, internal divisions, and rising suspicion within the opposition party.
“The same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party now appear to be finding their way into the ADC,” Obi stated.
Furthermore, Obi stressed that his political ambition is not driven by desperation for office.
He said his focus remains on building a just, compassionate, and functional Nigeria, rather than merely occupying a political position.
“I am not desperate to be President, Vice President, or anything else,” Obi said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to national development, good governance, and a better future for all Nigerians.
The development has sparked fresh debate across Nigeria’s political landscape, especially as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.
While the APC sees Obi’s latest move as evidence of political inconsistency, his supporters argue that he is responding to a political system that often frustrates genuine opposition.
With his next political destination now the subject of intense speculation, all eyes will remain on Obi as the race for 2027 gradually takes shape.
