FORMER Vice-Presidential candidate of African Peoples Alliance in the 2019 General Elections and Governorship candidate of BOOT Party in Osun State in the 2022 Election, Prince (Dr.) Adesoji Masilo Adeleke on Tuesday congratulated former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Bamidele Akande, Asiwaju of Ila Orangun on his conferment of Nation Award by the former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Akande was conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
Masilo in a Press Statement personally signed by him available to SOJ WORLDWIDE, said he was delighted to hear the good news because he believes that Papa Akande deserved the honour bestowed on him having excelled in his political endeavours from a Ward Counsellor to the Secretary to Old Oyo State Government under Late Chief Ajibola Ige, Ajiroba of Ila Orangun to Deputy Governor of Oyo State to State Chairman of Alliance for Democracy to Osun State Governor in1999 – 2023 to National Chairman of Political parties AD, AC,ACN,and finally APC.

Baba commenced his political race from the grassroots as an elected Ward Councillor in Ila-Orangun where he was installed as Asiwaju of Ila-Orangun by late Orangun of Ila, HRM, Oba William Adetona Ayeni when he was the Deputy Governor of Old Oyo State shortly before 1983 General elections.
Baba Akande was the Osun State Chairman of Alliance for Democracy in its formative years, his sterling performance led him to become the first elected progressive Governor under the Alliance for Democracy as a disciple of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Bola Ige from 1999-2003 with remarkable achievements. To mention but a few, Federal & State Ministries, Accountant General & Agencies’ Offices were operating from rented Apartments in the State. He built the current State Secretariat including Office of the Governor White House named after Bola Ige without borrowing to pay the Contractors, Civil Servants including Pensioners throughout his tenure in office.
Baba Akande rose to become the National Chairman of AD that metamorphosed to AC, ACN and finally to APC that unseat President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
He was overdue to be honoured but we give glory to God Almighty, it is better to be late than never.

His long time dream seeing disciple of Obafemi Awolowo and MKO Abiola to become the President of Nigeria came to reality on May 29, 2023. When Jagaban Bola Tinubu was sworn in as 16th President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He singled handedly facilitated the approval of siting the Federal University of Science and Health to our home town at Ila-Orangun.
His good legacy as the one who brought good governance to Osun State can never be forgotten so easily.”
