It was unbelievable that a herdsman identified as Nura Umaru who is in police custody boasted that he raped a pregnant woman because her husband killed his cow.
The incident happened in the Ryom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Umaru kidnapped the woman on her way to the farm and raped her three times, ignoring her plea for mercy. He immediately fled from Plateau State to a hideout in Bauchi State.
After four months of searching for him, Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Plateau State Police Command eventually arrested him.
He confessed to the rape crime and would likely be charged on counts of kidnapping, rape, and second-degree murder of the dead baby.
While he was paraded at the Command Headquarters, Umaru stated that he raped the woman because her husband killed one of his cows and he vowed to retaliate by doing something to hurt the man.
Explaining what led to the killing of his cow, he said: “I took my cattle to graze in an empty field close to his farm and he warned me never to come to the area to graze again.

“I assured him that I would not allow my cattle enter into his farmland and pleaded with him to allow me to graze my cattle in peace but he kept harassing me and I had to move my cattle away from the area.
“A few days later, I took my cattle out to graze but I met the same man working on another farmland. He shouted at me that he had warned me never to come there again. I responded and he said he was going to deal with me.
“He brought out his cutlass and slashed one of my cows, killing it on the spot. I went after him but he ran away”.
After that happened, I promised to deal with him by raping his wife.
“Some weeks later, I saw the woman going to pluck some tomatoes and luckily, she was alone, so I followed her to the farm and kidnapped her.

“I took her into the bush and raped her three times.

He added that his only regret was that the woman lost her baby and she suffered for the sin her husband had committed.
