Tinubu orders arrest Prince Nwabueze — President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze. The order follows the discovery of yet another alleged fake government agency operating from within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF). Consequently, the President has also suspended three Permanent Secretaries linked to the scandal.
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, disclosed the development on Friday. He briefed State House correspondents shortly after meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. According to Aliyu, the commission uncovered the latest fake office while investigating a separate scandal involving the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), allegedly run by one Adeyemi Matthew.
Furthermore, Aliyu explained that investigators identified the newly discovered entity as the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office. He said the office had been illegally allocated space within the OSGF premises, contrary to existing laws and without presidential authorisation. As he put it, “Mr President has directed as follows: the immediate arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze.”
Notably, Aliyu revealed that Nwabueze allegedly operated under several aliases while running the scheme. Investigators reportedly linked him to at least four other name variations, including George Nathan, George Nathan Nwabueze, and Honourable George Buchi Nwabueze. Therefore, the commission suspects that these multiple identities helped the promoter avoid detection for an extended period.
In addition, the ICPC chairman disclosed that the fake office operated with the alleged assistance of collaborators within the OSGF itself. He noted that the commission engaged directly with OSGF officials to gather relevant information before briefing the President. As a result, Tinubu ordered the immediate suspension of three Permanent Secretaries identified as M.S. Danjuma, Engineer Nadungu Gagare, and Richard P. Pheelangwah.
Meanwhile, this latest revelation adds to a growing scandal that has embarrassed the Federal Government in recent months. Investigators first exposed the fictitious PFIPC earlier this year, after its promoter falsely claimed presidential appointment and even listed top government officials as board members without their consent. Since then, the ICPC has continued uncovering additional fake agencies exploiting weaknesses within government administrative systems.
Moreover, the timing of this discovery is significant. It comes just two days after the Federal Executive Council approved a comprehensive forensic investigation into government processes that allowed fictitious agencies to operate undetected. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, had earlier disclosed that the ICPC’s interim findings revealed serious gaps in administrative and control systems across government offices.
Nevertheless, Aliyu maintained that the commission’s investigation remains ongoing. He warned that further actions could follow as additional facts emerge from the probe. Consequently, Nigerians should expect more names and details to surface as the ICPC continues tracing how the fake office gained access to such sensitive government premises.
This scandal, ultimately, raises fresh questions about oversight within Nigeria’s civil service structure. Given how easily unauthorised entities have infiltrated government buildings, many observers are now calling for stricter verification processes across all federal offices. As the investigation deepens, the Presidency faces mounting pressure to demonstrate that accountability applies evenly, regardless of how close individuals sit to the corridors of power.
Sojworldnews will continue tracking developments in this story as the ICPC releases further updates.
